Jovon Miller is a dynamic and multi-talented artist, dance educator, musician, and professional choreographer hailing from Seattle, Washington. Recognized for his creativity and versatility, Jovon has established himself as an award-winning dancer and choreographer with expertise in tap, contemporary, and jazz dance. His dance journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Western Washington University, where he specialized in modern interpretive dance and honed his unique approach to storytelling through movement.
As the founder and visionary behind Jovon Miller Productions, Jovon is dedicated to creating meaningful artistic experiences for aspiring dancers. His mission extends beyond technical dance training, aiming to cultivate well-rounded artists by providing performance opportunities that are both challenging and transformative. Through his productions, he emphasizes valuable life skills such as discipline, resilience, and self-expression, inspiring his students to grow both as dancers and individuals.
Drawing on his deep musical background, Jovon brings a rare blend of rhythm and musicality to his dance instruction. His performance history includes collaborations with prominent musicians like Gerald Turner (of Digable Planets and Cherrywine), Kevin Gardner (platinum producer for E-40), and Greg Adams (Tower of Power), among others. These experiences allow him to convey complex musical theories and rhythm dynamics in a way that resonates with his students. His classes often explore the intersection of movement and music, allowing students to grasp the importance of timing, flow, and expression in dance.
Jovon is also a sought-after instructor, frequently leading master classes and workshops at dance studios and universities across the Pacific Northwest, including his alma mater, Western Washington University. His workshops are known for their vibrant energy, technical rigor, and focus on nurturing the next generation of dancers and artists. Through his teaching, Jovon continues to shape the dance community and inspire countless students to pursue their artistic passions.
Choreography
Choreography
In addition to teaching regular classes and private lessons, Jovon creates choreography and award-winning solos, duos, trios, and group dances for competitions and his own dance company, Jovon Miller Productions Dance Company. His piece “Elemental War” was a nominee for outstanding spoken word or storytelling in the 2015 Voice Arts Awards. His desire is to revolutionize his industry by imparting skills in a manner that inspires him to be a better person every day.
As an instructor and choreographer, Jovon’s remarkable accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. He has won several awards in both regional and national competitions for his innovative choreography and technical training. His unique pairing of strong techniques, performance education, and knowledge of how the body moves kinesthetically teaches dancers to understand where the movement initiates in the body through the skeletal and muscular structure. He has his own show in Western Washington University’s Student Education Matinee Series, where he gives lectures and performances that children from all over the region come to watch, inspiring them in multiple ways with his engaging choreography and charismatic personality. Jovon Miller describes his choreography as uniquely artistic storytelling. It is as diverse as he is. His choreography encompasses many topics, ranging from cancer and the life struggles that come with it to lighthearted playfulness that makes the audience laugh out loud. His choreography is not only a form of expression; it’s also a way to address issues in society from different vantage points.
He has been commissioned over the years to choreograph for various organizations, such as Evoke Productions (Full Tilt) and the Seattle International Dance Festival. He was also a choreographer and dancer in a Greg’s Japanese Auto commercial.
